I've been using Ultrafractal for about 5 years and created many fractals. Then I discovered Apophysis. I finally became aware of how to use the 3D aspects of 3D hack by studying the tutorial that had a 3 dimensional Serpinski Gasket pyramid - I can't remember where or who it was, but I was able to study the parameters and recreate the pyramid and gain understanding of the 3D settings. Now, several fractals that I created are being viewed with the pitch and yaw completely adjusted. It's a whole new way to create new fractals. In fact, the Ablaze fractal that I submitted is actually an upside down view of another fractal that I made and looks completely different.
I also tried my hand at a couple of stereo fractals, but it is hard on the eyes and my wife and I didn't want to cross our eyes that much and that long, so I stopped making them, it wasn't that important to me right now.

Oh! and if you ever find that tutorial you were talking about in your ID then I'd love to see it! I'm new to Apo and Apo 3D too so any new tuts would be helpful! I can also add it to my faves if it's on DA so other people could find it; or even add it to my links list.

    Thanks! :D

OK, I did a lot of searching again and I wound up at a site called FracFan Forum. There was an old post from Oct 7 2007 where SLOBO777 posted a parameter file for a 3D Serpinski Gasket. It was not a tutorial, but I copied the parameter text a while back, used Notepad++ to add it into my parameter files, looked at it, studied it, reproduced it a piece at a time to see when the 3D actually showed up. It was a very easy fractal to build. In this case, it was the Z Pretranslate and Z Prescale that did the trick.

Unfortunately, it is not located in DA. But if you are interested, I could give you the link to the forum, or send you my parameter file called BruceTest that has the initial fractal and several parameters that I saved as I was recreating it. It is not much to look at, but when you hold down the mouse button in the image in the adjustment window and drag around, it clearly and easily rotates perfectly in 3D space.

actually I think I would like to take you up on both those offers! LOL! They both sound interesting! It sounds like you're much more advanced in fractals than I am though! I was doing them years ago in FE but didn't have any help. No guides, no tutorials, no DA, no nuthin'! LOL! It was a hunt and peck kind of thing where I just made changes and if I didn't like what I saw I hit undo and picked something else. I never even tried to adjust transforms and all that. In fact I don't think there even was an option to do that back then! It was still in beta and very young at the time if I remember right. It's much more advanced now I'm sure but I've not even downloaded it yet to see what changes they've made. I'm not even 100% sure it was FE I was using back then! It's been way too long ago!

Tonight I will send you the link in a reply. Do you know how I would send you the parameter file in DA?
    :icondebi62:
To send params it's best to put them in a note. Whenever I try copying them from the artist comments and pasting them into Apo it always gives me an error for some reason; but when somebody has pasted the params into a note and I go to the part of the note where you type in your response to copy the params, then I can paste them into Apo and they usually work fine. Otherwise I have to try to paste them into Notepad first and then over to Apo. I have no idea what is happening behind the scenes during all the copy/pasting but it just somehow works that way. Go figure!

You can just put the link in there too with the params if you want. I know to copy from <flame> to </flame> for the params. It will also help me find the link again easier if I want to look at it again.

I saw your shout on ^cmptrwhz's shoutboard saying you didn't have a gallery. Looks like you found it!! :D You've got some nice pieces too!

Welcome to DA! I'm pretty new myself so I know how it feels when you first get here! You can check out my DA ID section to possibly find some helpful links. I'm trying to turn that part of my site into a Noob Help Center! :D Since I'm really into fractals I have quite a few fractal links on there as well.

Again, welcome to DA! Have fun!!

    Thanks for the warm welcome.
I'm still in the steep learning curve for Apo, although some recent Deviations, like the American flag fractal that was just submitted, have really opened my eyes. Using the Post Editing function to place transforms exactly where you want them in the image has opened up a whole new Avenue. I took the Flag fractal apart and deleted all the transforms except for the stripes and realized what was going on.
I have always preferred to be a purist with fractals and I rarely, if ever, use post processing on them, even when I was using Ultrafractal.
Sorry for babbling, but when one is talking about fractals, there is no short conversation. I hope someday soon to create a fractal as complex as the Flag fractal.
I'll check out your place, it was good meeting you!
